IOPROST LATANOPROST

Latanoprost Ioprost is a pharmaceutical medication primarily used to reduce elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with glaucoma or ocular hypertension. It belongs to the class of prostaglandin analogs, which work by increasing the outflow of aqueous humor from the eye, thereby lowering IOP and helping to prevent optic nerve damage.

Mechanism of Action:
Latanoprost Ioprost acts on the prostaglandin F2α (FP) receptors in the eye, enhancing the uveoscleral outflow of aqueous humor. This results in a significant reduction in intraocular pressure, which is critical for preventing vision loss associated with glaucoma.

Indications:

• Open-angle glaucoma

• Ocular hypertension

Dosage Form:
Typically administered as ophthalmic eye drops, usually once daily in the affected eye(s).

Side Effects:
Common side effects may include:

• Eye redness or irritation

• Increased pigmentation of the iris

• Eyelash growth or thickening

• Occasional blurred vision

Precautions:

• Avoid contact with other eye medications within 5 minutes of instillation.

• Regular eye examinations are recommended to monitor IOP.

• Not recommended during pregnancy or in patients with hypersensitivity to prostaglandin analogs.
